CARES is currently accepting applications for Lifesharing/Family Living Providers in Schuylkill, Carbon, Monroe, Northampton and Lehigh counties, PA. T
The goal of Lifesharing is long-term placement in a family home environment for individuals with developmental disabilities. This fosters the sharing of life experiences with supportive persons to whom they are not related. Through this arrangement, individuals with developmental disabilities become active, participating members of another family.
Lifesharing enhances and enriches the lives of individuals and is an enhanced alternative to traditional Community Living Homes or group homes. Individuals in lifesharing have their own spending money, medical insurance, purchase their own clothing and personal items, are responsible to pay for their own recreational activities, and can participate in CARES sponsored events throughout the year. Individuals in lifesharing attend a day program or work program during daytime hours Monday through Friday, giving the lifesharing provider free time.
Minimum Provider Qualifications:
- Over the age of 21
- Provide clearances dated within 1 year
- Complete a physical and mantoux test
- Provide proof of driver’s license and insurance
- Provide a bedroom space that is not shared (Apartments and rental homes are OK)

- A competitive, monthly, tax-free stipend
- 30 paid respite days
- 24/7 on call support

CARES will work diligently to match family skills and interests with individuals that will be placed in the home. When you chose CARES for lifesharing you are not just adding to your family, but you are joining the CARES family as well.
